Home Invasion Attorneys

Representing Clients Nationwide

Home invasion is a frightening and potentially dangerous crime. This occurs when robbers force their way into an occupied residence such as a home, apartment or hotel room in order to commit robbery or some other crime. This is a violation of the space in which people feel the safest. The Cochran Firm Criminal Defense attorneys understand the feeling of violation against the victim, as well as the violation that occurs when someone is falsely accused of such a heinous crime.

The Home Invasion Criminal

In most cases, home invasion criminals work at night and during the weekend when there is likely to be someone at home. Often, the resident is as much a target as the home itself. When selecting the home to be invaded, often the perpetrator will choose a home in which:

  • A woman resides alone
  • A wealthy senior citizen resides
  • A known drug dealer lives

In other cases, it is not uncommon for a perpetrator to follow a victim home based on the value of the car the victim is driving, or on the type of jewelry the victim is wearing. The invader may also have already been in the victim's home posing as a delivery person, repair person or some other type of vendor.

It is rare for a home invader to work alone because they often rely on winning an overwhelming physical confrontation with the victim. This helps the perpetrator to establish control and instill fear in the victim. If violence does occur, it is usually within the first minute of the invasion. The perpetrators usually have some device with which to restrict movement of the victim(s) which may include:

  • Handcuffs
  • Rope
  • Duct tape

Or they may rely on the threat of violence with a gun or other weapon to intimidate the victim or victims.

Some home invaders appear to enjoy (and even get a "rush") from the intimidation, domination and violence they inflict on their victims.

The Accused

If you have been accused of home invasion, there are steps you can take to protect yourself against these false allegations. First and foremost, be sure to retain qualified counsel such as The Cochran Firm Criminal Defense attorneys as soon as possible. Next, gather as much documentation as you can that proves your good character. It is also important to exercise your right to remain silent unless otherwise advised by your attorney. Keep a diary of all significant events and any potential witnesses relating to your case. This gives your attorney aid in preparing the best defense possible for you. Finally, never investigate your own case. You will do yourself more harm than good.

If you have been charged with a home invasion accusation, you must speak with an aggressive and experienced team of legal counsel immediately to protect your rights. Please contact The Cochran Firm Criminal Defense lawyers at once.
